North Carolina requires voters to present a valid photo ID when voting in person. Here’s what you need to know to make sure your vote counts.

Don’t Have a Photo ID?
If you don’t currently have a valid photo ID, you can obtain one from the Cabarrus County Board of Elections any time before the election, through the end of the early voting period.

Voting Without an ID on Election Day
If you arrive at the polls without a valid photo ID, you can still vote. Sign an affidavit of reasonable impediment (also known as a “Photo ID Exception Form”) explaining why you weren’t able to present ID. This form is also available if you have a religious objection to being photographed, or if you’ve been affected by a recently declared natural disaster.

Alternatively, you can vote without your ID on Election Day and then bring a valid photo ID to your county board of elections by noon on the third business day after the election.

Voting by Mail
If you’re voting by mail (absentee voting), you’ll need to include a photocopy of a valid photo ID with your returned ballot, unless you’re a military or overseas citizen voter. If you don’t have a photo ID, you can complete the Absentee Photo ID Exception Form included with your absentee ballot materials.
